Paul Lynde and I'm Growing Old
PAUL LYNDE GOES MAD! That was the title of this 'lost' Paul Lynde special that I saw as a child. I laughed like CRAZY. It was a funny, over the top hour of sketch comedies featuring Paul Lynde, a comedian I enjoyed as the center square on Hollywood Squares and as Uncle Arthur of Bewitched. But neither of these programs matched the wackiness of Paul Lynde Goes Mad which featured a SAVAGELY funny Phantom of the Opera parody.
Now, the question is why I have I decided to bring up the topic of the late Paul Lynde. Well, in October, the classic Paul Lynde Halloween special from 1976 is coming to DVD. Despite featuring KISS playing three songs, this special only aired once and then to the dustbin of TV history.

Now, I never saw that special when it aired. I was 4 years old. So, to dig up some facts on Paul Lynde I went to IMDB. He passed away in January of 1981. That means I saw Paul Lynde Goes Mad when I was 7 or 8 years old and that was 28 years ago. Yes, I am getting old. It finally hit me when I realized I remember a man when he was alive and that man has been dead close to 25 years. Time flies. Paul Lynde went mad. I got old.
Paul was unique, original and a comic genius. He left us due to misadventure and he is missed and irreplacable. Thanks for those memories Paul. It has been many years since you left us and even though I getting older and the years pass....you will never be forgotten.
I looked up Paul Lynde Goes Mad on IMDB and it is missing from Paul's credits. There is a listing of Paul Lynde Goes to the Movies which was released in 1979. Could they be the same special? Not sure.
I'll be getting the Halloween special when it is released. I wish they would release more of his classic work.
