KDOC-TV Endless Classics
While it is fun to watch classic TV on cable television and on DVD, it simply does not compare to watching classic television on a UHF channel. But, sadly, these days are gone....unless you live in California. In Socal, you have access to a wonderful UHF station: KDOC-TV Channel 56 Anaheim. (Note: It is carried on a number of local cable providers throughout various counties so you need to check local listings)
From the KDOC-TV website:
"KDOC-TV hit the airwaves in October, 1982 and it’s been a fascinating ride ever since.
" KDOC was recently purchased on July 1, 2006 by Bert Ellis and Ellis Communications. Ellis Communications will be the second owner of this station since it signed on. While many of the other independent stations in LA have been acquired by the big networks, KDOC has remained one of the few non-affiliated stations in Los Angeles."
Because of this unique independent streak, the station has been able to carve out its own identity in the seemingly diminished world of UHF TV.
What programs does this station run? How about: Hawaii 5-0, Quincy, Matlock, Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Night Gallry, The Twighlight Zone, Wild, Wild West, Rat Patrol, Charlie's Angels and a host of others. Keep in mind, this is a LOCAL UHF station....there is a hugely different feel watching these programs on KDOC-TV than it is to watching TV LAND. This is not to say that TV LAND is not fun to watch (it is pretty darn awesome)
This station is EXACTLY the way UHF used to look 25 years ago and its retro style is warmly welcomed by a fans of classic TV and whoever came up with the concept of devising its classic retro style deserves a ton of credit.
How fun is this station: on Saturday nights they run classic black and white Universal Horror films. Yes, it is like reliving the monster boom of the 1950's and 1960's all over again. (Buy some Famous Monster Magazines off of Ebay while you are at it) What a shame they don't have a local horror movie host. I guess you can't have everything.
