Avengers/The Nightstalker - "Double Feature"

Speaking of the old CBS Late Movie, does anyone out there also have fond memroies of the back to back Friday night line up of The Avengers and Kolchak: The Night Stalker? This line up really sticks out in my mind mainly because these were two incredibly fun television programs that provided wonderful thrills for a young viewer who was enamored with adventure, chills and thrills. Plus, Diana Rigg was one of the most gorgeous women to ever grace the cathode ray.

Way back when this double shot of The Avengers of the Nightstalker was a really cool way to veg out on a Friday Night. The Avengers started at 1130pm and the Nightstalker appeared at 1230pm. The Avengers remained one of the ore unique adventure programs that ever aired on TV and was the first British program to air on network TV in the United States and it may have been the first British series shot in color so as to be more acceptable to American TV. (I have to double check that fact) The Nightstalker ratings were somewhat interesting because the ratings for the reruns were higher than the programs 1974 original run. This led to serious consideration towards bringing The Nightstalker back with new episodes but Darren McGavin wantd nothing to do with it based on his unfortunate experience with the original series. (BTW - Did anyone see the ROTTEN remake of the series that stunk up the airwaves a few years back?)

There was actually a 'triple feature' night for me once as I sat through the Avengers, The Night Stalker and then into a viewing of the underrated Hammer Horror classic Taste The Blood of Dracula.

For what its worth, The Avengers did make a brief comeback on TV on the A&E Network along with reruns of Quincy in the mid-1990's. While the show has disappeared from cable TV, A&E have provided awsome DVD releases of the series that are of pristine sound and picture quality.
