An Image of Americana

It becomes very interesting to look at the way America and American life were presented in pre-Watergate era of television and popular culture. Yes, there will be those cynical folks who look at the bygone era of America as presented in a number of classic TV shows as an over idealized image and, to a certain extent, this is true. However, there WAS a great deal of idealism present in America in those bygone days.

Granted there is a great deal of idealism present within the images of these old television programs that may not necessarily reflect life as it actually existed. After all, how many programs today look like real life? CSI may be enjoyable to watch, but it is about a close to a real police station as WWE is to NCAA wrestling.

Thn again, idealism does have its value. In a way, it provides something to strive towards. While there may be an inherent corniness to some of the older programming, corniness is far better than boredom and it is certainly better than despair.

And God almighty knows....ANYTHING is better than that crap on the Lifetime Channel
